Are you starting to question how much lifespan your roof has left? Your roof is a crucial aspect of your home’s structural integrity, so it’s important to be sure that it’s in the best shape possible in order to avoid small problems that could quickly turn into expensive repairs. Everyone wants a home that is safe, secure, energy-saving, and admired by the neighborhood. At Exterior Remodel & Design, our mission is to help homeowners build strong homes that have a “wow” factor. When it comes to such a substantial home improvement investment, there are usually a handful of questions that are asked by homeowners. Here are a few frequently asked questions regarding residential roof replacements.
How do I know if my roof needs to be replaced?
Whether your roof is starting to show its age or it was recently damaged in a severe storm, there are a number of visible signs that could indicate that your roof needs to be replaced.
Here are a few common symptoms of a failing roof:
- Curling or broken shingles
- Limited granulation on shingles
- Missing shingles
- Rusted or missing roof flashing
- Active interior leaks
A roof will typically have a lifespan of 15-30 years. However, this timeline depends on the type of materials that were used and the quality of craftsmanship when it was initially installed. At Exterior Remodels and Design, all of our shingles come with manufacturer warranties that range from 25 years to lifetime.
New roof cost
When it comes to determining how much a repair or full roof replacement will cost, there are a number of factors that need to be considered. The size of your roof, brand of roofing materials and the roofing contractor you select all play a role in the final price tag. However, it’s important to not choose a roofing contractor based solely on cost. High-quality craftsmanship and materials hold an important value. If you hire a contractor based on their low price point, you run the risk of cheap materials being used and below-grade workmanship that could end up costing you more down the road.
The process of installing a new roof
You will be notified as to when your roofing materials will be delivered to your home. Most of the time, the materials will be placed on your roof and out of the way. Our team will need to have access to an exterior or interior power source, so it will be important to locate which outlet you would prefer us to use during the installation.
When it comes to installing or repairing a roof, plan for there to be a lot of noise. We suggest removing exterior or interior items that hang on the walls that could be damaged if they fell due to the vibration or from falling debris. Due to the debris, we also ask that customers and their family stay clear of the work area so we can maintain a safe work environment for all involved.
